It depends whether you want to coach because you enjoy coaching, or for money?

There are alot of reasons why you might want to go back into coaching but if you really have a passion for mentoring and building better soccer players I would highly recommend that you work with the urban inner city kids.

I play soccer for a club in my country and the best team in the city is an inner city team (most of the players are from really poor neighbohoods) but they are really good.

Our coach went looking for players in the poorer parts of the city who always play soccer but couldn’t afford to pay for club fees and he recruited them and found ways to pay for the fees and now we are the best team in the region.

You could possibly go to the inner city high schools, where alot of immigrant children go, Latinos, Africans, Europeans, Asians, are all into soccer, and you will defiantly find some good players, (post signs, posters, in neighborhoods, parks, rec centers, schools, e.t.c) and most of them probably wont be able to afford the club fees especially since American clubs probably charge more, you could think of creative ways of raising money, maybe fund raisers, selling stuff, government funding, community support, organizations e.t.c

This would be good for most inner city kids because they would probably otherwise be doing things other things that are not good to make up for the lack of extracurricular activities. You will also be surprised what you learn from them.

I really like this answer. Football is a fantastic way of bringing people together. It doesn’t matter where we come from if we all share the same passion.

Coaching Youth Soccer: A Baffled Parents Guide

Written by soccer great and championship Stanford coach Bobby Clark, COACHING YOUTH SOCCER: THE BAFFLED PARENTS GUIDE shows how an uninitiated coach can mold a group of kids into a team.

Being part of a team will be one of the most rewarding experiences of their youth.

But in the end, it will be you who reaps the biggest reward, as you watch your players learn and grow.

  • Coaching Youth Soccer helps organize your practices and provides ideas for drills that will keep your team interested throughout the entire season.
  • You’ll soon be getting compliments from parents because their kids enjoy the variety of “games”  they play in practice so much.
  • Coaching Youth Soccer gets you reflecting on the sense of responsility and achievement that building a team brings.

what are some fun ideas for coaching a youth soccer team?

i’m coaching a U12 team for my soccer club this season and was looking for some ideas on some fun drills/games that can take kids that have never played and make them have fun and develope passion for the game…so what do ya have as far as ideas go for me?

for some kind of warm up and streching exercise i was gonna find out their favorite songs and make them a warm up cd to listen to before games… from there i just know some basic passing and running drills… i don’t want anything too complex because only 1/4 of my team has played before so if you know anything fun and action packed pleas let me know. what are some good ways to break the ice for the first practice and get these kids excited?

Top Coach Or Quality Players?

My son is a great U-14 soccer player and has been offered a place on a premier team, One option is playing with a really great coach and mediocre players (where my son would be the best player) or playing with a better team with great players but a so-so coach where my son will be in the middle of the pack.

Which option will make him expand as a player–the best coach or [playing w/better players? Thanks
He has been playing premier for 4 years and is a forward.

OPINION

Playing with better players hands down. A good coach is nice, but he is not playing with you. He is merely giving instructions.
Your son will practice with these boys alot and it will raise his playing level.
Also, if the coach was hired by a premiere club, then he must have something good to offer.

How do i coach 5 and 6 year old youth soccer when it is my first year coaching and I know nothing about soccer

What would really be helpfull is a point in the right direction to finding some good web sites. I would like something for a good guid line as to what I should be teaching these kids at this age. I have coached this age before in wrestling so I am familiar with that part of it. I just need to know what to show them. I can work with them from there.

Good for you! Here is a good start. Go to the website I have listed here and then click on the coaches tab, and follow the links to the U-6 drills.

I too was in your shoes and I have also used this myself and helped me get a grip until more I was more established. This website is all about the kids playing soccer. Also if you can, take a referee course to give you a better feel of the Laws of the Game. This will make you a better coach.

Good Luck!
